Ginsbury Genie wins Elektra Award for 'Excellence in Design in Industrial'

Versatile embedded computing platform targets industrial applications

The Ginsbury Genie, a fully integrated embedded PC platform, has won a prestigious Elektra award for 'Excellence in Design in Industrial'. The 13th annual Elektra Awards, held at the Lancaster London hotel on Tuesday 24th November, celebrated the leading accomplishments of individuals and companies in the European electronics industry.

The Award for 'Excellence in Design in Industrial' recognises an outstanding achievement in the design and development of a market-specific product - including hardware architecture, software and system integration - which has made a significant impact in the industrial market. The independent Elektra judges were impressed by Ginsbury's decision to consult customers and suppliers before undertaking the design of the platform, to improve its functionality and adaptability.

The Ginsbury Genie has been designed to meet the needs for a cost-effective, functional and adaptable embedded computing solution providing full PC compatibility, low power consumption and a compact mechanical footprint. The low power Intel Atom E38xx based design, complete with fully integrated TFT display module, offers a genuine alternative to more expensive, traditional PC-based systems.

Utilising a dual-core 1.46GHz Intel Atom E38xx 64-bit processor, the Ginsbury Genie implements a fan-less design that boasts a power consumption of less than 10Watts (depending on usage). Up to 2GB of system memory is available, with an on-board SATA SDD providing storage capacity starting at 32GB. Support for a range of different connectivity and expansion options include: Mini PCI-Express card slot for additional peripherals, one USB 3.0 port, three USB 2.0 ports, RS-232 serial port, Gigabit Ethernet port and a Micro SD card slot. A user defined expansion header can also be used for general purpose I/O, I2C, SPI or UART.

The Ginsbury Genie GGE38-xxx supports a wide range of fully integrated TFT LCD display module driven via a dual-channel LVDS interface. A range of LCD panels is supported, including 7.0” WVGA (800 x 480), 10.4” SVGA (800 x 600), 12.1” XGA (1024 x 768), 15” XGA (1024 x 768) and 17.3” Full HD (1920 x 1080). An integrated touchscreen controller supports 4 and 5-wire resistive touch panels. Support for other display sizes, resolutions and touchscreen technologies is also available.

The embedded platform features compact mechanical dimensions of 199mm (w) x 112mm (d) x 35mm (h) and an operating temperature range of 0° to +70°C which enables the Ginsbury Genie to be used in a wide range of systems and applications.

The Ginsbury Genie supports Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, Linux and Android Lollipop operating systems. The built-in (EUFI) BIOS enables basic configuration and the ability to boot from SD card, USB or SATA drives.

The award winning Ginsbury Genie embedded PC platform is available immediately from Ginsbury. Please visit www.ginsbury.co.uk/manufacturers/genie-m-1621 for further information.
